TYR Tactical Gear – Choosing the Right Pieces of Tactical Gear

Tactical Gear

When it comes to selecting tactical gear, prioritizing mobility and comfort is essential. Look for lightweight materials complemented by durable hardware.

Originally, tactical gear was designed to help military and law enforcement personnel. But now, everyday people are finding value in the added protection and storage options that these pieces offer.

Plate Carriers

Whether you’re in law enforcement or the military, or simply planning for the worst-case scenario at home, plate carriers are versatile pieces of tactical gear that can save your life. A properly sized and configured plate carrier allows you to carry all your tactical gear on the outside of your body, within easy reach, so you don’t have to stop and dig through a rucksack when bullets are flying.

A plate carrier is a special vest that accepts plates of hard armor or soft armor, and can be augmented with other equipment add-ons, such as pouches, holsters, and accessories. Its primary purpose is to protect the wearer from bullet and stab wounds. When deciding what type of plate carrier you need, first determine your mission profile. Are you going to assault a fortified compound overseas with 50 armed military guards, or are you defending your own house against 1-3 attackers with handguns? The answer to that question will inform what type of protection you need and how much additional gear you’ll want to carry.

When choosing a plate carrier, you’ll want to look for features that are specific to your intended use, like hidden seams at high-friction areas, durable padding on the shoulders, and articulated and/or adjustable straps throughout the rig. It’s also important to choose a carrier that supports the size of plates you need – if you don’t know what size of plate you’ll be using, check out the manufacturer’s sizing specs to find out what sizes of plate will work with their carriers.

Once you have a plate carrier that fits, it’s time to start building your rig. A good place to start is with a medical plate carrier, which includes specialized pockets for carrying your Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK). This setup is ideal for police SWAT teams or other emergency responders, and ensures that critical medical equipment is easily accessible in the event of an injury.

A torso plate carrier is another good option for a military or law enforcement personnel, and is designed to provide heavy-duty protection against multiple bullet and stab threats. It is light and comfortable, and is available in a range of sizes for both men and women.

Pouch

The right pouches can make your gear more accessible and easily deployable in the field. TYR Tactical offers a wide variety of pouch products suited for almost any tactical application. They can be fastened to backpacks, body armor, duty belts and other gear for a customizable loadout. Whether you’re looking for a small Admin pouch to carry everyday gear or a larger medical pouch, we have the perfect pouch for you.

Pouches are also a great way to organize your kit and reduce the amount of time you spend getting in and out of your gear. A multi-purpose pouch, for example, can be used to store small items like a compass, handcuffs and a flashlight. It can also be used to hold extra ammunition and a first aid kit. Its streamlined design is a good choice for military operations or for anyone who wants to keep their gear organized and easy to access.

For increased versatility, consider a tactical pouch that has MOLLE or PALS compatible attachments. MOLLE stands for Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment, and it is a system of heavy-duty webbing that can be found on a number of tactical equipment items. Unlike ALICE, which was the military’s previous standard for carrying equipment, MOLLE is designed to prevent gear from swinging and causing injury or damage to soldiers in combat.

Having the right medical gear in your bag is essential when you’re out in the field. The best medical pouches, which are known as IFAKs (Individual First Aid Kits), will contain essential tools to mitigate the three leading causes of preventable combat death, including hemorrhaging, tension pneumothorax and airway obstruction. These pouches can be fastened to a duty belt, worn as a drop-down leg rig or attached directly to MOLLE compatible gear.

A hydration pouch is another great addition to your tactical kit. It will help you stay hydrated on long missions and ensure you have water available when you need it. We carry a selection of high-quality military pouches from top brands like Safariland, 5.11 Tactical, BlackHawk, Bianchi and more. Featuring a wide array of sizes and colors, we have the perfect pouch to meet your needs.

Holster

Tactical holsters come in a variety of styles and materials and they can’t be easily pigeonholed based on where on the body they’re worn. They are, however, commonly used by military personnel, police and armed citizens in tactical capacities. They serve a very important purpose by allowing armed individuals to access their handguns when a long gun malfunctions or runs out of ammunition, which is a common occurrence in close-quarters battle (CQB) environments.

One of the main characteristics that define a holster as tactical is its precision fit. This is critical in order to achieve a crisp, clean break on the draw and a secure, no rattle carry. G-Code has perfected the art of holster design by working with real world operators and testing our gear in the field. Our products are designed to last, so you can count on them to perform when it matters most.

Some holsters are designed to be carried on the body armor that is worn by military personnel or law enforcement officers. They are referred to as drop leg holsters and they allow the firearm to be more easily accessible because it is positioned below the level of the weapon attachment on the body armor.

Other holsters are meant to be carried on the belt. These can be either outside the waistband (OWB) or inside the waistband (IWB). Those that are positioned IWB will typically feature an adjustable retention, cant and ride height. This allows the user to configure the holster to their own preferences in terms of how they’re going to be carrying their firearm and will ensure that it can be easily drawn under stress when needed.

Another type of holster is a sling holster, which consists of two bands worn around the shoulder and chest that will allow the weapon to be accessed more quickly than it could be with a standard hip holster. This holster is also more convenient for seated users, as it can be easily reached from the seat of a vehicle or from a position where you’re seated in a building or other environment.

Backpack

Tactical backpacks, also known as rucksacks or sling bags, are one of the most versatile pieces of tactical gear for any situation. You can use them for everything from long outdoor hikes to tactical missions in hostile environments and even as an emergency survival kit for up to 72 hours.

The size of the tactical backpack you choose depends on the environment and conditions where it will be used. For example, a tactical backpack intended for use in a desert will have different equipment and features than one designed for rugged mountains or a cold snowy climate. The same applies for packs designed for specialized occupations or situations, such as a medical pack, a sniper pack or a K9 handler pack.

Many tactical backpacks are made from rugged, durable fabrics and materials like 500D or 1200D Cordura nylon. They also feature heavy-duty zippers and buckle closures that will stand up to the rigors of frequent use. Look for a backpack that offers plenty of storage options with compartments, dividers and internal loops to keep your gear organized. The pockets should be easily accessible, even when wearing gloves, for quick gear retrievals in a stressful situation.

Tactical bags are typically equipped with adjustable shoulder straps and padded hip belts for a comfortable, ergonomic fit. They may also come with a cummerbund, which is an adjustable waistband that distributes a pack’s weight on the wearer’s hips and pelvic area instead of on the shoulders, reducing the load and strain on the back and neck.

Small items can often become lost at the bottom of a pack or get torn up under heavier gear, so many tactical backpacks feature specific pockets or pouches designed for pens and other small accessories. Some include document pouches for stowing ID papers, maps and other essential documents that might be needed in a crisis.

Make sure your tactical backpack is properly maintained by regularly inspecting it for signs of damage or wear. This will help you catch any issues before they develop into significant problems and prevent your backpack from performing poorly in critical situations. Check areas of high stress, such as the shoulders straps, hip belt and attachment points for the MOLLE system or external gear, as well as any spots on the backpack that may come into contact with abrasive surfaces.
